Winchester Model 42 Field with STRAIGHT GRIP

Item#: M42S
Asking Price: $0.00

Description:
This is a very very nice Winchester Model 42 .410 shotgun in a rare (hardly seen) configuration. This gun is a Field Grade M42 with a straight grip buttstock rather than the pistol grip variety. While straight grip M42s are often found in Deluxe, Skeet or Trap versions a Field Grade straight grip is virtually non-existant. (the Field Grade straight grip was indeed a Winchester catalogued model)

This is a pre-war shotgun, being manufactured approx 1936 by serial number and is in fantastic condition.

28" barrel, full choke.

This gun retains nearly all of it's original blue on the receiver, shows virtually no wear. The barrel & mag tube retain nearly all the blue other than typical wear where the forearm travels when working the pump action. Some minor blue loss on barrel.

The forend retains all of it's original varnish. The straight gripped buttstock shows minor handling marks with what appears to be a burn on the left side near the buttplate most likely caused by a misplaced cigarette.(I believe this blemish could be eliminated by a good wood man) The wood is unsanded and slightly proud of the metal at the grip as it should be. The buttstock finish appears to be an oil type finish rather than varnish.

This gun came to us on consignment and the owner has had the gun 30+ years. He bought it from the original owner. It is unlikely that any work has been done to the gun.

A very nice Winchester M42.
